WTHR, TEGNA's top-rated NBC affiliate in Indianapolis, Indiana is searching for an experienced and motivated Digital Desk Editor to join our digital team. 

The successful candidate is innovative, with strong social media experience combined with solid news judgment. Qualified candidates will have experience posting stories to digital-mobile-social platforms, working knowledge of online CMS software, video and photo-editing skills and the ability to work a flexible schedule.

The job will also require the skills of a traditional Assignment Editor. The right candidate will be trained to listen to police scanners and manage assignment desk operations. The Digital Desk Editor position will split their time between producing digital content and assignment desk duties.

Responsibilities:

• Produce audience first, engaging content through digital articles, videos, photo galleries, social media, push alerts, live streams and interactive elements.
• Review and respond to news releases, news tips, emails, user-generated content and social media messages to identify unique, local and engaging content.
• Do all necessary reporting efforts to turn information into digital content, such as make calls, get pictures or video to support a story, research and confirm information, etc. 
• Coordinates newsgathering operations including dispatching crews and incoming content intake/distribution.
• Work with urgency to publish and broadcast breaking news and update as needed.
• Monitor social media for breaking news, find interesting stories, track trends and report findings to newsroom.
• Oversees live shots including IFB / frame syncs coordinate and tune-in.
• Liaison between the station and crews in the field / other news outlets / public officials / closed captioning.
• Contributes to editorial meetings and conversations, including pitching stories
• Collaborate with other TEGNA stations, NBC affiliates and other partners to search trending content and publish compelling stories, photos and video from our corporate network across web, mobile and social media platforms.
• Track competition’s newscasts, push alerts and website content.

Requirements:

• Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field.
• Applicants must have previous experience writing news content for the web and will be expected to turn in a portfolio of previous digital news writing work upon request.
• Applicants must pass a writing and copyediting test.
